Those findings led to the formation of an entirely new scientific field known as psychoneuroimmunology. Psychoneuroimmunology (or PNI) studies the interactions between the mind (psyche), the nervous system (neuro) and the immune system (immuno). The mind through thought influences the body. Although there are many approaches to accessing the resources of the mind to improve health MHA believes that hypnosis is the most effective technique and that it is best supported by research.

Micheal Yapko asks in his textbook on hypnosis...For whatever condition you can imagine ask yourself the question: Do you think there is any mental or emotional involvement with that disorder? Do you think someone's attitude, expectations, or belief system plays a role, however major or minor, in his or her experience of the problem? Are someone's feelings, personal needs, or self-image a factor in the way his or her particular physical and/or mental health problem is experienced? (Trancework, 2003) If the answer to any of those questions is yes then hypnosis can have some role.
